From Anna Karenina to Belarussian folk songs to the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva, these stories find their way to us in strange, beguiling forms. With sadness, with longing – but above all with great humour and hope – they show us that, however tragic, literature is always a rallying cry: it is always ‘good news’.
